The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed

Ashley Bennett is a senior in high school when four police officers are acquitted after beating Rodney King half to death. After the verdict protests spread across L.A. and Ashley starts to think about her place in her group of friends, her family, and her community.

This book was so immersive. The characters are so real, and many of them have different motives. Many of the themes in this book are so relevant today, and it comes highly recommended. Available both in library and on OverDrive.
