The Benton Harbor Public Library is not responsible for any unattended children left in Children's Department. If a Child is left unattended after library hours, working Librarians will take the child to the City of Benton Harbor Police and Public Safety Department.

Families, please help us keep the library experience pleasant for everyone by following our department rules:

  1. No food or drink allowed in department; only in designated places.*  

  2. Please keep an eye on your children while here and help them clean up their mess before leaving.

  3. Please help us maintain a "peaceful" atmosphere for all of our patrons. Please inform your children to use a quiet voice and not to run while inside.

  4. Watch over your children as they look through books; books that are damaged on library property will still be charged.

  5. When done using a book, please place the book in the green baskets provided at the end of specific book shelves. 

  6. If a baby or toddler becomes unhappy and begins crying & cannot be calmed down, it is time to leave.

Teens, please help us keep the library experience pleasant for everyone by following our library rules:

  1. No food or drink allowed in department; only in designated places.*  

  2. No Soliciting. Unless you are waiting to be assisted at the desk, you must remain seated in the Teen department.**

  3. Sign up for a computer at the front desk.***

  4. One person per computer at all times.****

  5. Hang jackets and coats on the back of your chair; do not leave them on tables or floor.

  6. No running or swearing.

  7. No explicit videos; this includes porn, fight videos or videos with excessive cursing.

  8. No open food or drink in the Teen Department.

  9. Seating is reserved for patrons actively using the Teen Department resources.

  10. Maximum of 4 patrons sitting in Teen Department book area at any time. Do not bring extra chairs into area.

  11. Absolutely no sleeping.

**This includes on stairwell and adult department/library entrance. 

***You must provide either a school or state ID, library card or parent/guardian

****If you are asked to move more than two times, you and the computer patron will be asked to leave the computer area.
