March - Spring into Reading! - Monthly Updates



 

Updates this month at the Library

General Updates-

  • The Library will close on March 1st and 2nd in observance of Staff Furlough Days. Hours will resume as normal on Monday March 4th.

  • The Library will close on March 29th and 30th in observance of Good Friday. Hours will resume as normal on Monday, April 1st. 

  • Spring hours will remain the same. You can find a full outline of Spring operating hours below.

  • The Library is now a Covid at-home test dispensary. You can request one (1) free kit per visit at the Adult or Junior Department front desks. There is a one (1) kit per patron per visit limitation.

  • The Board meeting will be on Tuesday, March 19th at 4PM. These meeting are open to the public.



 

Departmental Updates

Junior Department-

  • New Displays in the YA Department:

    • National Women’s History Month

      • Read all about girl power with this women-centric collection of YA fic. This display will be up until March 31st

    • Expanding Girls’ Horizons in Science and Engineering Month

      • Learn about careers in STEM, and the women who pioneered them! Includes both fiction and nonfiction titles. This display will be up until March 31st

    • National Reading Month

    • Choose from popular new titles from all genres, and maybe find something new! This display will be up until March 31st 

  • New Displays in the Children Department:

    • Seasonal Display - Spring

      • Find your favorite spring reads with these cute picture books. This display will be up all season long.

    • Ramadan

      • This display will be up until March 31st

    • National Women’s History Month

      •   This display will be up until March 31st

    • National Reading Month 

      • This display will be up until March 31st

    • National Children’s Craft Day; Show Your Craft-tivity! (March 14)

      • Make a random craft and display it on the passive pillar.  This passive program will be up until March 31st


Adult Department-

  • New Displays in the Adult Department:

    • Irish cuisine

      • Create dishes from the Emerald Isle!

    • Authors Born in March Display: Khaled Hosseini, Sarah J. Maas, Robin Hobb, Douglas Adams, Jack Kerouac, Dave Eggers, Alice Hoffman, James Patterson, Flannery O’Conner, & Tennessee Williams

    • Celebrating the Women’s History Month and Women’s History Month, featuring topical crossword and word search for you to take home


 

Upcoming Programs and Event Dates

Adult Department- 

  • Frequent Movie Flyer Club: Get a punch card from our staff, and after 7 checkouts you get to check out a rental movie for free!!

  • Find the leprechaun raffle: Find the groundhog and get a ticket in our raffle for a $10 gift card. Enter daily!

  • Cafe and Craft: March 5th & 18th, drop in from noon to 2:30 p.m. to make an acid ink coaster

  • D&D club - March 8th & 22nd

    • Join a group of adventurers as they travel the realm. Lead by a library staff DM. Held in the Reference Room, located on the first floor. Snacks will be served. Running from 5-8 PM

  • Adult Gaming Saturday, March 9th, noon to 2 p.m. in the auditorium. Free and all are welcome!

  • Marvel Trivia Contest: Thursday, March 21st from 5-6 p.m. Test your knowledge and win a prize!

  • Grown Up Movie in the Adult Department, 4-6 p.m. featuring Meg 2: The Trench

  • Silent Book Club - Thursday, March 28th

    • No talking, just reading. Bring a book to read, and even your favorite blanket to snuggle in. Held in the Reference Room, located on the first floor. Coffee and tea will be served. Running from 4-6 p.m. Free!


Junior/Family Department-

  • Show Your Craft-tivity! - All month long

    • Make a random craft and display it for all our library friends to see!

  • STEAM Saturday - Saturday 23rd

    • Participate in several STEAM-related activities and games, including a themed project, where you can have the chance of earning a take-home prize! Presented by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Benton Harbor, Rotary District 6360. Thank you for the $2,500 grant! Running from 12-2 PM

  • Family Night with Krasl - March 13th

    • Have fun and make an amazing craft with the whole family. Held in the Auditorium. Running from 5-6:30PM. 

  • Baby Bookworms - Every Friday 

    • Running from 2-4PM 

  • Wake Up, Shake Up Storytime - Every Wednesday 

    • Running from 11:30AM -12:30PM.

  • Family Night - March 15th

    • Running from 4-5:30PM

  • Coloring Club - March 6th, 20th, & 27th

    • Running from 5-6:30PM

  • Melty beads - March 4th & 18th

    • Running from 3-5PM

  • Teen Craft - March 11th & 25th
