Updates this month at the Library


General Updates


The Library will close on October 6th and 7th in observance of Staff Furlough Days. Hours will resume as normal on Monday October 9th.


Departmental Updates


Junior Department-

● Starting October 2nd, 2023, the Junior Department will resume opening hours as normal.


● New Displays in the YA Department:

○ Halloween and Harvest:

■ Pick a good book, or scream until daybreak with these selections. Check out these books today! This display will be up until October 31st

○ Bullying awareness and prevention month

■ Find your voice to help or get help from those who are victims of bullying. You are not alone. This display will be up until October 31st

○ Mental illness awareness week

■ Learn more about mental illnesses, how to cope, and how to help with this display of informative and thought provoking books. This display will be up from October 4th-9th

○ National fire prevention week

■ Learn how to prevent fires and what to do if you ever find yourself in one with these fun, informative, and entertaining books! This display will be up from October 11th-16th

○ National friends of the library week

■ We love our friends, and we want to let you know! Check out this display of library themed books, available for checkout! This display will be up from October 18th-23rd

● New Displays in the Children Department:

○ Halloween and Harvest Time

■ Tricks and treats abound and the farmer’s in the dell with this selection of spooky, silly, slimy books! This display will be up until October 31st

○ National Hispanic Awareness Month

■ Learn all family traditions, Hispanic culture, and much more in this selection! This display will be up until October 31st

○ Bullying awareness and prevention month

■ Bystanders have power, bullies never win. Find your courage with these inspiring (and sometimes funny) stories featuring kids just like you! This display will be up until October 31st

○ Mental illness awareness week

■ Everyone can feel seen with this selection of books, featuring stories starring kids just like you. Check out these books today! This display will be up from October 4th-9th

○ World space week

■ Learn about the stars, galaxies, space missions and more with these out of this world materials! This display will be up from October 11th-16th

○ National friends of libraries week

■ You’re our friends, and we’re your friends, too! Check out these materials from this display to see just how much we appreciate you! This display will be up from October 18th-23rd


Adult Department-

● New Displays in the Adult Department:

○ Spooky, Scary Halloween Book Display

■ Find your fill of chills, thrills and more in these spook-tastic books. This display will be up until October 31st

○ Banned Book Week Display

■ Never stop the fight for the right to read! Join us and thousands of others in making fREADom for all. You can also show your support by coloring a #FREADOM coloring page for everyone to see. This display will be up until October 31st

○ Authors Born in October Display

○ National Hispanic Awareness Month Display

○ Constitution Day Display

○ A Tribute to Jimmy Carter, 39th President on his 99th Birthday


 

Upcoming Programs and Event Dates

Adult Department-

● Play the BHPL Halloween game - All month long

○ Come in to the Adult Dept and find Jack Skellington, and you can enter a drawing to win a $10 gift card!

● Cafe and Craft - October 12th

○ Come and enjoy a hot cuppa while making soothing crafts and relaxing with library friends. Held in the Auditorium, located on the second floor. Running from 12-3 PM

● D&D club - October 5th, 13th, 20th & 27th

○ Join a group of adventurers as they travel the realm. Lead by a library staff DM. Held in the Auditorium, located on the second floor. Snacks will be served. Running from 5-8PM

● Book group - October 19th

● Game Day - October 14th

● Movie night: The Mummy Resurrection - October 24

● Naruto Trivia - October 25


Junior/Family Department-

● Guess the pumpkin weight - All month long

○ Can you guess how much this cute lil pumpkin weighs just by looking at it? Stop by and make your guess! Closest guess wins a Halloween Fun Pack.

● Halloween and Harvest event with the Great Start Parent Coalition - October 7th

● Friends of the 4-H Club: reading with dogs - October 3rd

○ Come read and get to know the furry friends of the library! All dogs are trained and will be accompanied by their pet parents. Running from 5-6PM

● Family Night with Krasl - October 11th

● Wake up, shake up Storytime - October 4th & 18th
