Updates this month at the Library


General Updates

  • The Library will close on February 2nd and 3rd in observance of Staff Furlough Days. Hours will resume as normal on Monday February 5th.


 

Departmental Updates


Junior Department-

  • New Displays in the YA Department:

    • Black History Month 

      • Learn about all about African American and Black history with this informative collection. This display will be up until February 29th

    • Valentine’s Day

      • Read one of many love stories in this romantical collection. This display will be up until February 29th

    • International Friends Month

      •  This display will be up until January 31st.


  • New Displays in the Children Department:

    • Seasonal Display - Winter

      • Find your favorite winter read with these cute picture books. This display will be up all season long.

    • Black History Month

      • This display will be up until February 29th

    • Valentine’s Day

      •   This display will be up until February 29th

    • Black Women in the Arts Month 

      • This display will be up until February 29th

    • Make-a-Take-a Valentine!

      • Make a Valentine’s Day card to leave for another library friend, and take one for yourself!  This passive program will be up until 29th


Adult Department-

  • New Displays in the Adult Department:

    • Valentine Cooking

      • Tasty treats for that special day!

    • Authors Born in February Display: James Joyce, Charles Dickens, John Grisham, Alice Walker, Judy Blume, Toni Morrison, Amy Tan, Anthony Burgess, Victor Hugo, & John Steinbeck

    • Celebrating the Black History Month, also featuring topical crossword and word search for you to take home


 

Upcoming Programs and Event Dates


Adult Department- 

  • Frequent Movie Flyer Club: Get a punch card from our staff, and after 7 checkouts you get to check out a rental movie for free!!

  • Find the Groundhog raffle: Find the groundhog and get a ticket in our raffle for a $10 gift card. Enter daily!

  • Cafe and Craft: Thursdays February 8th & 22nd, drop in from noon to 3 p.m. to make an air dry clay project 

  • D&D club - Fridays February 9th & 23rd 

  • Join a group of adventurers as they travel the realm. Lead by a library staff DM. Held in the Reference Room, located on the first floor. Snacks will be served. Running from 4-8 PM

  • Adult Gaming Saturday, February 10th, noon to 2 p.m. in the auditorium. Free and all are welcome!

  • Marvel Trivia Contest: Thursday, February 22nd from 5-6 p.m. Test your knowledge and win a prize!

  • Let’s Rap About It Thursday, February 29th at The Livery. Details TBA.

  • Silent Book Club - Thursday, February 29th

  • No talking, just reading. Bring a book to read, and even your favorite blanket to snuggle in. Held in the Reference Room, located on the first floor. Coffee and tea will be served. Running from 4-6 p.m. Free!


Junior/Family Department-

  • Make-a-Take-A Valentine! - All month long

    • Make a Valentine’s Day card for the next library friend, and take one of the other cards to keep!

  • STEAM Saturday - Saturday 24th

    • Participate in several STEAM-related activities and games, including a themed project, where you can have the chance of earning a take-home prize! Presented by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Benton Harbor, Rotary District 6360. Thank you for the $2,500 grant! Running from 12-2 PM

  • Family Night with Krasl - February 14th

    • Have fun and make an amazing craft with the whole family. Held in the Auditorium. Running from 5-6:30PM. 

  • Wake Up, Shake Up Storytime - Every Wednesday 

    • 11AM -12PM.

  • Family Night - February 16th 

    • Running from 4-5:30

  • Coloring Club - February 7th, 21st, 28th

    • Running from 5-6:30PM

  • Melty beads - February 5th & 19th

    • Running from 3-5PM

  • Teen Craft - February 12th & 26th

    • Running from 3-5PM

  • Kids’ Gaming - 6th & 20th 

    • Running from 4-6PM

  • Teen Gaming - 13th
