Updates this month at the Library
General Updates
● The library will be closed on Monday September 4th for Labor Day. Library services will resume on Tuesday September 5th.
● The library's current hours of operation have moved to Monday, Thursday, Friday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM | Tuesday, Wednesday 11:00 AM-7:00 PM | and Saturday 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
● The Library will close on September 1st and 2nd in observance of Staff Furlough Days. Hours will resume as normal on Monday September 4th.
As we say goodbye to Director Kat, the BHPL staff would like to thank her for her years in office, and wish her all the best in her next endeavors!
Departmental Updates
Junior Department-
● Starting September 5th, 2023, the Junior Department will be opening at 12:00 PM everyday for the entire month due to short staffing. If you or your children need items from the Department anytime before then, please let the Adult Desk staff know, and we will try to pull the items for you, depending on availability.
Please keep your request to a limit of 10 items or less.
● Story time will be on temporary hold until October 2023. Can’t wait to see you then!
● New Displays in the YA Department:
○ School pride:
■ Everyone can feel seen with this selection of books, featuring stories starring teens from all walks of life. Check out these books today! This display will be up until September 30th
● New Displays in the Children Department:
○ Back to school
■ Find new or old favorites this month with picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels all centered around getting back into the swing of things at school! Even if it’s your first time attending, we have great picks for you! This display will be up until September 30th
○ Thank an Inventor
■ Have you thanked an inventor today? With this fun selection, you can learn all about inventors and their inventions–and maybe say “thank you, George Washington Carver!” for inventing over 300 uses for peanuts, and even more uses for other plants! This display will be up until September 30th
○ Smile!
■ You can always find a smile in these books! Be happy and share the warmth by checking out any of these books on display. This display will be up until September 30th
○ Planes, planes, planes
■ Learn about all parts and pieces of aerocraft the month of September. This display will be up until September 30th
Adult Department-
● New Displays in the Adult Department:
○ Join the Banned (Books)
■ Stand up for your right to read by checking out a banned book! This display will be up until September 30th
○ Famous Authors Born in This Month
■ Discover what authors were born in September and check out one of their books! This display will be up until September 30th
Upcoming Programs and Event Dates
Adult Department-
● Cafe and Craft - September 7th
○ Come and enjoy a hot cuppa while making soothing crafts and relaxing with library friends. Held in the Auditorium, located on the second floor. Running from 12-3 PM
● D&D club - September 8th & 15th
○ Join a group of adventurers as they travel the realm. Lead by a library staff DM. Held in the Auditorium, located on the second floor. Snacks will be served. Running from 5-8PM
● Creative writing club - September 21st
○ Bounce ideas off each other and learn to hone your craft with like minded individuals. Held in the Auditorium, located on the second floor. Running from 12-3:30PM
Junior/Family Department-
● Friends of the 4-H Club: reading with dogs - September 5th
○ Come read and get to know the furry friends of the library! All dogs are trained and will be accompanied by their pet parents. Running from 5-6PM
● Family Night with Krasl - September 13th
○ Have fun and make an amazing craft with the whole family. Held in the craft area of the Children’s Department. Running from 5-6:30PM.
● Movies in the Park: Black Panther - September 16th
○ Bring your own blanket, seating, and snacks to a BHPL screening of the first Black Panther movie, starring Chadwick Boseman. Fresh popcorn is going to be served. Held in the park behind the library. The movie will start at 9:30PM. Please continue to check our FaceBook and website for weather changes pertaining to this showing.
